South Ari Atoll , Dhangethi
Dhangethi is a small local island in South Ari Atoll (Alif Dhaal Atoll), Maldives, covering approximately 0.6 km in length and 0.2–0.3 km in width, with a population of around 800–1,000 residents. Located about 90–100 km from Malé, it is known for its peaceful atmosphere, authentic island life, and easy walkable layout. The island is close to one of the world’s best whale shark hotspots, offering excellent snorkeling and diving experiences. Surrounded by vibrant coral reefs, Dhangethi also features a beautiful turquoise lagoon with calm, shallow waters ideal for swimming and water activities, along with seafront cafés and local restaurant making it perfect for both relaxation and marine adventures.
Getting There
It takes around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours by speedboat to reach Dhangethi — around 1.5 hours in good weather and up to 2 hours if conditions are not idea
